The ONLY way to start the UK's Summer season!
So KJam 2016 was a massive success! It was so good to see some new faces hitting the Kendal dry slope along with a few of the regulars! For the comp the main slope was equipped with a 3 feature jib line and the jump line consisted of two kickers and a quarter pipe running into small rollers in the landing. This unique layout allowed for 2 jam sessions to run at the same time - meaning that the snowboarders could hit the kickers for 90 mins whilst skiers were on the Jib line and then move over to the rails for 90 mins after the BBQ lunch (special discount if you liked your burger in flames!).
Once the sprinklers were on and the competitors had pledged up (new sponsor for next year?!) the slope was running fast despite the scorching temperatures. After the first few runs we knew we were in for some incredible entertainment! Some of the crazy tricks being sent included Brad Rowell and Scotty Walsh attempting double fronts off the kicker, and Brad also trying backflips off the small up rail we have at Kendal!
The crowd were entertained by the TrapLord himself John Weatherley, ever demanding cakes and beers! With his light hearted banter and knowledge for "ski tricks" it made for a great atmosphere! (Check out the Booby Trap!).
What is really worth mentioning is the astonishing talent that is emerging from the UKs young slopestyle riders, not only brave enough to be throwing down some huge tricks, but for the bouncing up and trying again after taking some pretty serious slams! KUDOS to you all for showing up your elders!
KJam continues to live up to its reputation of a fun competition, with every rider sporting a huge grin even when exhausted. Well deserved medalists and worthy winners in all the categories! (See the scores here). Congratulations to Scott Walsh for winning steeziest rider at KJAM 2016! The boy sent it, and sent it with style! Winning a photoshoot with Bluebird Photography!
The afterparty wasn't to shabby either, with the man himself John Creswell showing us them dance moves he learnt back in the day! A great day/night had by all, roll on next years comp!
A huge thanks to all the team who put the time and effort into organising such a well run and enjoyable event! Special mention to John Creswell and the Kendal Dry Slope Volunteers, Scott Stephenson for the filming (the edit will be out soon!), all the sponsors for the prizes and to everybody who partied the night away! Everyone had a fantastic time and this is one event that you will not want to miss next year!
